Welcome to the Backyard Almanac.

This is a place for us to share changes that we see in our backyard, front yard, local park, or school yard. It is an opportunity for us to share a little about what is happening our little "corner" of the world.

The goal for this wiki is to develop a phenology. Not sure what a phenology is? Check out "What is a phenology?"

This page was started by Mrs. Prosen at Gill St. Bernard's School (GSB) in Gladstone, New Jersey.

She is a Primary to Grade 4 science teacher. She wants to share the world with her students. There is no better way than collaborating and connecting with the Internet!
At GSB, our motto is "The World is Our Classroom."
We are trying to understand more about how the world around us works. That is what science is all about.

The Goals:

-To collaborate and communicate with weekly online with different schools.
-To share phenology information weekly.
-To compare and contrast seasonal "firsts" observations in different parts of the US (maybe even the world!)

The Task:

-To update your page once a week with information about the seasonal changes (like birds migrating, young animals, flowers, tree buds) and weather for the week.
-To update your page by the end of the day on Wednesday.
-What are five things that are special to your school and five things special to your area (region of the country)?

At GSB are going to start keeping records of changes around our school on March 4th. We plan to update once a week (by the end of the day on Wednesday) with changes we have observed in nature and describe a little about the weather we have had.
We would like to hear from you once a week too! We can keep track of what is happening and ask questions of each other in the discussion pages for each location. We look forward to collaborating with you! ~Mrs. Prosen
